After an ice-rock avalanche from a high-mountain glacier triggered a massive mudslide, roads, power and communications were cut at Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.
This timeline follows the first six days of the rescue operation: from the first teams advancing through a communications blackout to rescuers entering the core disaster area by land, water and air, while engineers worked meter by meter to reopen G216.
Deep mud, unstable slopes, barrier lakes, rain and fog repeatedly slowed the operation – but the search continued.
