A recording of a telephone call between Lieutenant-Colonel Deena Govender of the KwaZulu-Natal Hawks Tracing Team, and an alleged associate of Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, has cast Mchunu in a negative light.
In the recording, Mavuso Ntandani could be heard assuring Govender that Mchunu fully supports the plan to throw KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, under the bus over the alleged extrajudicial killings by police in the province.
The Madlanga Commission heard that the call happened shortly before Govender's first appearance just over a week ago, with Ntandani saying Mchunu fully supports the plan, also asking Govender to keep the conversation secret.
Govender told the Inquiry on 21 August about Mchunu's clandestine plots to oust Mkhwanazi, which Mchunu has denied.
