Why reopening the rescue road to Gyirong Port is so challenging

More than 100 machines, steel-wire gabions and an increasingly complex operation: crews are racing to reopen the destroyed section of the G216 National Highway despite challenging conditions.

As the only road providing vehicle access to Gyirong Port from the Chinese side, restoring this vital rescue corridor remains a key part of operations following the mudslide that struck the China-Nepal border on August 26.
