Italian tourist on how he narrowly escaped Nepal-Tibet flash floods

Italian photographer Stefano Lotumolo describes how he and other travellers escaped a giant wave of water, mud and debris in the form of flash floods at the border between Nepal and Tibet on Aug 26. They had been on the way to Mount Kailash.

He said the feeling of certain death was palpable after they watched parts of a mountain collapse, but something told them: "Guys, get out, it’s not your time yet."

He and his travelling companions managed to climb up a mountainside to safety and were evacuated to Kathmandu.
