Rescue and recovery efforts continue apace at Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region after a mudslide triggered by a glacier collapse on the Nepal side of the border devastated communities and reshaped the landscape.
Crews are working around the clock – searching for survivors, clearing debris, battling rain and reopening roads. They've already restored nearly 2.6 kilometers of the G216 national highway.
But the final stretch to the border is a different story. The roadbed has been washed away, and the narrow valley leaves little room for large machinery. It's a race against the terrain – but they are not giving up.
