SANDF funding woes continue: Advocate Pikkie Greeff weighs in

The Defence and Military Veterans Department has long struggled with inadequate funding, and those pressures are now intensifying.

The department is warning that it could be pushed to the brink of collapse if its growing employee compensation bill is not addressed.

Staff salaries are putting the department under increasing financial strain, with its human resources budget failing to keep up with salary increases and inflation.

Minister Angie Motshekga says the department is facing a projected R3.3 billion over-expenditure, after overspending by R3 billion in the previous year.
