Crime Statistics | Police record drop in serious contact crimes

Acting Police Minister Prof Firoz Cachalia says the police have recorded notable decreases in several serious contact crimes between April and June this year.

This emerged during the release of the national Crime Statistics for the first quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year in Pretoria.

Cachalia says they've also seen significant reductions in crimes such as carjacking, residential robberies, business robberies and cash-in-transit robberies.

He also assured South Africans that police will ensure that the upcoming Local Government Elections run smoothly.
