John Ratcliffe's trip to Moscow made headlines around the world and triggered intense speculation. “The simplest explanation is that Ratcliffe delivered a warning to Vladimir Putin,” says Adam Jasser, News Director at TVP World, on News In Depth. According to Jasser, the visit was part of a broader signaling campaign aimed at deterring further Russian escalation. “Increasingly, Russians are beginning to ask themselves: What did we actually achieve for all this war effort? Hundreds of thousands of coffins,” he notes.
At the same time, he warns against underestimating NATO's recent military exercises over the Baltic states, where American aircraft, and military assets played a leading role, sending a visible signal of the Alliance's readiness and commitment to collective defense.
Jasser also points to Alexander Lukashenko's visit to Moscow shortly after Ratcliffe's trip, arguing that Belarus could once again play a key role in any future Russian escalation.
