Cuba's energy crisis darkens classrooms as new school year begins

Around 1.4 million Cuban children are returning to school as the country grapples with a severe energy crisis. Frequent nationwide blackouts, ageing infrastructure and a longstanding US oil embargo have disrupted daily life, including education. A shortage of teachers and uniform materials has forced the government to relax dress codes, while officials say simply completing the school year would be a success amid mounting challenges.
