Aleppo’s ancient markets revive as reconstruction passes halfway point

Aleppo’s ancient souqs are being rebuilt more than a decade after fighting that began in 2012 left them in ruins, restoring livelihoods for returning shopkeepers.

Restoration teams, supported by the Aga Khan Development Network, are returning the vaulted stone passages of the Old City—designated a UNESCO World Heritage site—to their original character.
