In the 2012 Olympics, India participated in only 13 sports and did not compete in more than 20 other disciplines. Many of these sports are barely known in the country, yet other nations win medals in them. To increase our medal tally, India must build excellence in these disciplines too. With a vast coastline and extensive mountainous regions, India has the geography and talent pool for sports like surfing and sport climbing, from water sports to winter sports.
