SA, Brazil strengthen economic ties

South Africa and Brazil are moving to strengthen economic ties, with both countries targeting greater trade, investment and tourism opportunities.

International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says efforts are underway to remove trade barriers and unlock new business prospects between the two economies.

Speaking at the Eighth South Africa-Brazil Joint Commission alongside Brazil's Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Lamola noted that bilateral trade reached two billion US dollars last year, while nearly 65 thousand Brazilian tourists visited South Africa.

He also called for more balanced and diversified economic relations between the two strategic partners.
