Zambia closes courts, preventing election dispute

The Zambian government has rejected claims that incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema has ordered the closure of the courts to prevent the opposition from filing election petitions.

Hichilema has secured a second term in office after winning the hotly contested elections.

The opposition has accused Hichilema of restricting its ability to campaign and suppressing political protest.

Opposition leader Brian Mundubile had reportedly indicated that he would challenge the results in court, alleging vote fraud.
