The United States is opening a new front in its campaign against Iran threatening not only Tehran, but the countries, banks and companies around the world that keep its economy alive.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent today unveiled what he called "Operation Economic Outcast" an unprecedented effort to sever what he described as "every economic lifeline" sustaining the Iranian regime.
Bessent announced new sectoral sanctions targeting five areas Iran relies on internationally including digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping.
The US Treasury is also sanctioning more than 60 entities, individuals and vessels accused of helping Iran acquire nuclear and missile technology, conduct cyber operations and generate revenue.
But the bigger message was directed at Iran's international partners that have been threatened with secondary US sanctions if they didn't comply with Washington's demands.
