Monday, August 24, marked the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s declaration of independence from the Soviet Union.
Celebrations and commemorations took place in Kyiv, attended by President Zelenskyy alongside foreign leaders, including British Prime Minister Andy Burnham. European Council President António Costa was in Kyiv as well, coinciding with the EU’s approval of €6.1 billion in financial aid for Ukraine’s defense.
This comes as Russia’s relentless attacks against civilians killed at least 11 people and wounded more than 100 over the last day. Meanwhile, Russian online retail giant Ozon saw four of its logistics hubs come under Ukrainian fire overnight.
To discuss this and more, Ukraine Brief’s host Sally Jasztrębska is joined by Peter Dickinson, UkraineAlert Editor at the Atlantic Council.
