The Zambian government has filed a reconsideration application in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria in a bid to challenge the ex parte High Court urgent order, which directed that the remains of the former Zambian President Edgar Lungu, be returned to Two Mountains mortuary.
The order was granted on an urgent basis, after the Zambian government executed the August 2025 Gauteng High Court judgment that entitled it to repatriate Lungu's remains for the purpose of a State funeral and burial.
The Zambian government charges that the Lungu family obtained the order in its absence and further cited three material non-disclosures to support its bid in the sensitive issue that has reignited tensions between the two parties.
