When floodwaters rose in Matoda village, Ahmedabad, Naik Nursing Assistant Ram Lakhan Kumar answered a distress call involving an expectant mother trapped in advanced labour.
Braving neck-deep, treacherous waters, he provided emergency medical care and safely delivered a healthy baby, and secured the mother and newborn on improvised floating stretchers and battled nearly two kilometres of floodwaters to get them safely to a critical care ambulance.
