Health worker unions in the Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Metros in the Eastern Cape are calling on the provincial legislature house portfolio committee focusing on health, to pressurize the department of health to employ more clinical and non-clinical staff.
The committee conducted a progress oversight visit to some hospitals in the two metros, including Motherwell and Empilweni Hospitals in Gqeberha as well as Grey and Bhisho hospitals in Qonce.
This to track the progress made in these facilities since the last oversight visit in August last year.
While the committee chairpersons in the two metro's welcomed the progress made in addressing matters of maintenance and infrastructure development.
It has admitted that the bolstering of the workforce in health remains slow.
