Poland’s migration story is starting to reverse, with more Poles choosing to come home. New data show 1.5 million Poles were living abroad at the end of 2025, down by more than 20,000 in a year, with notable declines in the U.K. and Germany.

A stronger Polish economy, family ties, and changing opportunities abroad are helping drive the shift.
But with Poland’s population shrinking and its workforce under pressure, returning Poles alone won’t solve the demographic challenge.
