Ukraine exposes the weaknesses of Russia’s oil industry | Eastern Express

Ukrainian drone strikes have exposed serious vulnerabilities across Russia’s oil industry, contributing to fuel shortages and lost export revenues. But Moscow faces an even larger problem beneath the surface, with more than half of Russia’s vast oil pipeline network reportedly worn out and thousands of ruptures recorded every year. Russia is also being forced to develop increasingly remote oil fields in the Arctic as older deposits decline. Melting permafrost threatens the pipelines, roads, and industrial infrastructure required to exploit those resources, while environmental protections and investment remain inadequate.
