Robot to detect, communicate SA official languages

Artificial Intelligence specialists say South Africa needs to move from being consumers of AI technologies developed elsewhere, to becoming producers of systems that respond to local needs.

They say developing AI that understands South Africa’s indigenous languages is key to ensuring that people are not excluded from accessing information and essential services.

Eastern Cape innovator, Mzwandile Zulu, is putting this into practice through Fuze, a humanoid robot being developed to understand and communicate in South Africa’s languages.
