LGE 2026 | Family apologises to President Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa's voter registration campaign in the North West was briefly overshadowed by tensions at the Bapo Ba Mogale Royal House, where some members of the royal family initially prevented him from entering the premises to pay a courtesy visit to Kgosi Andrew Mogale.

Upon his arrival, a group of royal family members blocked the President's entry, accusing government of neglecting the welfare of the royal house and failing to resolve a long-standing chieftaincy dispute that dates back to 2016.

The family members voiced frustration over what they described as years of uncertainty surrounding traditional leadership matters, insisting that government intervention is urgently needed to bring closure to the dispute.

The standoff delayed proceedings as discussions took place between officials and members of the royal family. Following interventions by various stakeholders, the President was eventually granted access and proceeded with the visit.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Bapo Ba Mogale Royal Family apologised for the commotion.
