Ugie pig farmers concerned by swine fever outbreak

The small-scale piggery farming community in Ugie in the Eastern Cape is concerned about the outbreak of African Swine fever.

Residents say a large quantity of pigs have been dying, while some farmers are slaughtering their pigs before they show symptoms of the fever.

Most are concerned about their livelihood, as they depend on livestock farming.

The farmers are calling on government to intervene, and prevent any further spread of the African Swine fever in the region.
