World Humanitarian Day | UN warns that aid workers face record levels of violence

On World Humanitarian Day today, the United Nations is warning that aid workers were facing record levels of violence, with more than 900 killed, injured or kidnapped worldwide last year. 350 aid workers were killed in 2025, while 322 were injured and 235 kidnapped.

Gaza remained the deadliest place for aid workers for the third consecutive year, with 186 killed in 2025.

The U.N. Humanitarian Chief Under-Secretary-General Tom Fletcher is briefing the media from Kyiv, the capital of war-torn Ukraine, where he's spent the last few days assessing the devastating humanitarian impacts from the ongoing war with the Russian Federation.
