Kazakhstan has conducted its first passenger-carrying drone taxi flight in Astana, testing an electrical vertical takeoff and landing aircraft as the country explores new applications for urban air mobility and tourism.
The EH216-S, made by China’s EHang, carried a passenger over a specially authorized area of the capital during the Games of the Future 2026. The two-seat aircraft can reach 130 km/h and travel up to 35 km, Kazakhstan’s Aviation Administration said.
Authorities are initially considering sightseeing routes lasting five to 30 minutes over natural, cultural and historical attractions, while longer-term plans include integrating autonomous aircraft into the transport network.
Officials also see potential uses in medical deliveries, firefighting, search and rescue, and logistics.
