APEC Senior Officials' Meeting critical for November

The opening session of the Second Senior Officials' Meeting of APEC China 2026 was held in Shanghai this week. Known as SOM, the meetings matter for the outcomes of the leaders' meeting and other events throughout the rest of the year. Different economies often have different priorities, especially on sensitive issues like trade security or data governance. The SOM is critical to whether larger APEC meetings can eventually deliver meaningful outcomes.
