80 years of India's independence celebrated

Thousands of people have gathered in Sandton for India Day 2026.

The event celebrates Indian heritage, culture and the longstanding ties between India and South Africa.

The event comes a day after India marks 80 years of independence and holds added significance as it marks the first India Day celebration for the newly appointed Consul General of India in Johannesburg, Shri S Koventhan.
