Teng Jimeng, associate professor of American studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University, says the total output value of China's film industry exceeded 810 billion yuan in 2025, with a box office multiplier of nearly 1:16 – meaning that for every 1 yuan of box office revenue generated, nearly 16 yuan is driven in the wider economy. Now, a new "film+" ecosystem is rapidly taking shape in China, becoming a driving force for regional economic growth.
