On the continent, South Africa is setting the benchmark for women in senior policy and diplomatic roles.

UN Women, the agency for women's rights, gender equality, and women's empowerment, reports that South Africa has roughly 30% female heads of mission, well above the global average of between 21% and 22.5%.
