Multi-agency team formed to tame hate speech and ethnic profiling

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), among other stakeholders, have announced the formation of a high-level multi-agency team to deal with political intolerance, hate speech and breach of the electoral code of conduct ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking jointly, the heads of the various institutions warned that the country is sliding into dangerous times due to escalating political indecency, ethnic incitement and vulgar rhetoric in public and online spaces. IEBC says that it cannot conduct elections in a toxic environment.
