Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Rao Inderjit Singh, introduced The Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha during the Monsoon Session.

The Bill seeks to provide a comprehensive statutory framework for the Indian Statistical Institute, enabling it to emerge as a globally recognised centre of excellence in Statistical Sciences and allied fields. It also provides for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
