#Polish #swimmer makes #history with first #Baltic crossing

Nearly 55 hours. More than 160 kilometers. Five attempts. One historic achievement.

Polish ultramarathon swimmer Bartłomiej Kubkowski has become the first person in history to swim across the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Poland.

After nearly 55 hours of nonstop swimming, he reached the shore in Dziwnów, completing the grueling 160-kilometer journey through cold water, strong currents, waves, and sleep deprivation.

It was Kubkowski's fifth attempt at the historic challenge after previous efforts were cut short by harsh weather and health issues. This year's swim also raised more than 174,000 Euro for the Cancer Fighters Foundation, supporting people battling cancer.

Fellow Polish endurance swimmer Karolina Szczepaniak also attempted the historic crossing.

The two-time Olympian, Guinness World Record holder, and 72-hour continuous swimming world record holder spent 58 hours in the Baltic before ending her second attempt without reaching the Polish coast.
