Inspiring new generation of ocean guardians

South Africa's coastline is home to one of the world's most diverse marine ecosystems.

However, beneath the surface, growing threats from pollution, climate change and excessive fishing continue to place immense pressure on marine life.

As the world marks Marine Protected Area Day this weekend, conservationists say protecting these underwater sanctuaries has never been more urgent.

Along the KwaZulu-Natal south coast, the internationally recognised Aliwal Shoal Hope Spot in Scottburgh is using the occasion to inspire a new generation of ocean guardians.
