LGE 2026 | DA eager to win JHB municipality

The Democratic Alliance in Johannesburg says it's the party best positioned to rescue South Africa's economic hub from what it describes as years of decline and governance failures.

The party argues that Johannesburg continues to grapple with challenges, including collapsing water and electricity infrastructure, rising unemployment, widespread poverty, and persistent political instability in the city's council.

The DA's call comes as South Africans head to voting stations across the country this weekend for the final voter registration drive ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections on 4 November.

The Electoral Commission has opened nearly 24,000 voting stations nationwide, giving eligible citizens a last opportunity to register, verify their registration details, and update their voting addresses before the voters' roll closes. More than 48,000 electoral officials have been deployed to assist voters during the registration weekend.

The opposition party is urging South Africans, particularly Johannesburg residents frustrated by deteriorating service delivery, to register and make their voices heard at the ballot box in November.
