SA to extend driving licence validity to 10 years

South African motorists could soon enjoy far fewer trips to licence renewal centres.

Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy, says Cabinet's decision to extend the validity of driving licences for Codes A, A1, B and EB from five to 10 years, will ease pressure on the system, improve service delivery, and help combat corruption in the licensing process.

SABC News has spoken to Creecy following Cabinet's move, which is expected to benefit millions of the country's drivers.
