Six Free State municipalities fail to pay salaries

For two months, municipal workers at Mohokare Local Municipality in the Free State have gone without salaries, leaving many unable to pay rent, transport costs and loan repayments.

Employees say the uncertainty has taken a heavy emotional and financial toll on their families, with many surviving on loans while waiting for their salaries.

Mohokare is one of about six municipalities in the Free State that have failed to pay employees on time amid ongoing financial challenges.
