The IEC says it will redouble its efforts to get eligible voters to register in the local government elections.
This follows the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that the polls will be held on the 4th of November 2026.
With the starting whistle for the race for the country's municipalities now blown, the Electoral Commission says it is critical that people register and do so in the ward of the voting district where they live, as there is no provision in these polls to vote anywhere else.
The Electoral Commission will be holding a voter registration weekend on the 20th and the 21st of June aimed at encouraging eligible voters to update their personal details and attract first time voters.
