Hamare Padma | K. Pajanivel: The Guru Who Took Silambam from Puducherry to the World

Silambam exponent K. Pajanivel from Puducherry has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri for his outstanding contribution to traditional martial arts.

Born in 1973 in Pooranankuppam, he began learning Silambam under Guru Rajaram and has dedicated decades to preserving and promoting this ancient Tamil martial art in India and abroad.

A committed teacher, he has trained numerous students free of cost and showcased Silambam at national and international platforms, helping preserve India’s rich cultural heritage.

His earlier honours include the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2023), Kalaimamani Award (2012), and several other prestigious recognitions.

Reacting to the honour, K. Pajanivel called it recognition of his lifelong mission to take Tamil heritage to the global stage and urged for Silambam to be introduced in school education.
