Justice system backlog under scrutiny

South Africa's Constitution guarantees accused persons the right to a fair and timely hearing before the courts.

But for many victims of crime, and their families, justice remains painfully out of reach as postponed hearings, court backlogs and systemic delays leave them waiting years for answers.

Advocacy group Action Society warns that these delays are eroding public confidence in the justice system, while families continue to carry the emotional burden of unresolved cases.
