The battle for political control of one of KwaZulu-Natal's key economic hubs is intensifying.

The uMhlathuze Local Municipality, the province's second-largest municipality, is shaping up to be a major electoral battleground ahead of the November local government elections.

The Inkatha Freedom Party, which currently leads the governing coalition in the municipality, is confident it can secure an outright majority at the polls.

But with persistent service delivery challenges and growing voter expectations, can the party translate that confidence into electoral success?
