The hidden reality of homelessness | Close-Up with Aleksandra Żaczek

In the new episode of Close-Up, TVP World journalist Aleksandra Żaczek takes a closer look at homelessness as both a social and deeply human issue, exploring the realities faced by people who are often invisible in everyday public life.

The episode features the report “Homeless,” by Michalina Maciejewska, which follows the work of the Podziel Się Foundation – a medical assistance center for the homeless in Chorzów. Through the experiences of volunteers and people receiving support, the report shows how homelessness is often linked not only to poverty, but also to loneliness, health issues and the constant struggle to survive while remaining in motion and outside stable systems of support.

The episode also features a conversation with Marta Czapnik-Jurak, a sociologist at the Institute of Social Prevention and Resocialization at the University of Warsaw, who discusses how homelessness is perceived in Poland, why public judgment and misconceptions persist, and what kinds of long-term support are truly needed - from housing assistance and food security to rebuilding social connections and stability.
