Sonam Wangchuk Ends 26-Day Hunger Strike; Government Assurances Change the Course of the Protest

Decode With Sudhir Chaudhary: Just 38 minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's video message, Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike. At Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh offered him juice, formally bringing the fast to an end. The Government of India gave written assurances that no cases would be registered against protesters, Parliament would discuss the paper leak issue and examination reforms, and compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide would be considered. Sonam Wangchuk said the government had assured meaningful examination reforms and also dropped the demand for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. The impact was visible at Jantar Mantar, where the protest crowd was significantly smaller than the previous day.

Decode With Sudhir Chaudhary: प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के वीडियो संदेश के कुछ ही देर बाद सोनम वांगचुक ने 26 दिनों से जारी अपनी भूख हड़ताल खत्म कर दी। गुरुग्राम के Medanta अस्पताल में केंद्रीय मंत्री JP Nadda और Dr. Jitendra Singh ने उन्हें जूस पिलाकर अनशन समाप्त कराया। भारत सरकार ने प्रदर्शनकारियों पर मामले दर्ज न करने, पेपर लीक और परीक्षा सुधारों पर संसद में चर्चा तथा आत्महत्या करने वाले छात्रों के परिवारों को मुआवजे पर विचार करने का लिखित आश्वासन दिया। इसके बाद सोनम वांगचुक ने कहा कि सरकार ने परीक्षा सुधारों के लिए जरूरी कदम उठाने का भरोसा दिया है और शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफे की मांग भी छोड़ दी। वहीं जंतर-मंतर पर प्रदर्शनकारियों की संख्या में भी उल्लेखनीय कमी देखने को मिली।
