The Cabinet approved a 46-km third and fourth railway line between Guntakal and Ballari at an investment of ₹1,264 crore. The project will strengthen the economic corridor connecting Andhra Pradesh and North Karnataka, serving major steel, power and cement industries. It includes one major bridge over the Vedavathi River, seven major bridges and 52 minor bridges, with a three-year completion target. Around 80% of the required land is already available. Rail transport produces 89% lower CO₂ emissions than road transport and is significantly more cost-effective. 99.6% of India's railway network has been electrified, making it the world's largest electrified railway network by scale. India's hydrogen train, inaugurated on 17 July, has completed 1,000 km of flawless operation. The new railway line is expected to handle an additional 16 million tonnes of cargo, delivering carbon reduction benefits equivalent to planting 27 lakh trees: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the Cabinet briefing.
