The United States on Friday (Jul 24) imposed a wave of new tariffs on 60 trading partners, replacing an expiring 10 per cent global duty. Countries with laws in place to combat forced labour have been given a 10 per cent rate, while those without such measures face a 12.5 per cent tariff. Deborah Elms, head of trade policy at Hinrich Foundation, tells CNA's Asia Now why she believes forced labour is being used as a justification for President Donald Trump's broader push to rebuild his tariff wall.
