SARB Announcement | Rand weakens, inflation concerns: Economists weigh in

Highly indebted consumers can breathe a sigh of relief, for now at least.

The Reserve Bank's Monetary Policy Committee kept the repo rate unchanged at 7.0%.

That's despite SARB Governor, Lesetja Kganyago, indicating that the MPC saw inflation risks to be on the high side.

He noted that inflation expectations, as surveyed by the Bureau for Economic Research, had increased and said the MPC expected headline inflation to remain above 4% until early next year.
