EU members reach agreement on 21st Russia sanctions package | World News Tonight

- EU PASSES NEW RUSSIA SANCTIONS PACKAGE
The EU has agreed on a 21st sanctions package against Russia. The negotiated measures include an extension of the price cap for Russia’s oil, target the country’s shadow fleet, banking and cryptocurrency sectors, as well as the Moscow stock exchange.

- NATO TO MODERNIZE AND EXTEND CRUCIAL FUEL PIPELINE
The North Atlantic Council has approved the NATO Fuel Supply Chain Capability Program Plan worth €27 billion, the biggest such investment in history. It is meant to modernize the pre-existing NATO Central European pipeline network and extend it to the alliance’s eastern flank to provide the region with the energy necessary for attaining warfighting readiness.

- NO BREAKTHROUGH
The meeting of the U.S. Secretary of State and Russia’s foreign minister brought no breakthrough on the war in Ukraine. But diplomatic efforts to end the conflict are not over. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who remains in touch with Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, may travel next week to the U.S. to talk with his counterpart in person.
