June inflation climbs as fuel prices surge

Annual headline Consumer Price Inflation accelerated to 5.0% in June, up from 4.5% in May.

Statistics South Africa data reveals that the June reading marks the highest inflation rate recorded in two years.

The sharp rise is mainly due to higher fuel prices, which continue to drive up transport costs.

On the food front, items such as pork, tomatoes, sausages, corned meat, and hake registered some of the largest annual price hikes in June.
