Calls for strengthened whistleblower protection

Civil society organisations led by Corruption Watch have called on the Justice and Constitutional Development department to extend the deadline for public comments on the Protected Disclosures Bill, 2026.

The groups held a media briefing on Wednesday in Johannesburg, where they outlined their concerns and proposed reforms to strengthen whistle-blower protections.

They argue that limited public awareness and insufficient engagement by the department have weakened meaningful participation in the law-making process.
