A prominent official of the All Truck Driver Forum of South Africa has been arrested together with two truck drivers on charges of incitement to violence on the N3 near Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal.
The ATDFSA has called for a national shutdown today, protesting the continued employment of foreign nationals as truck drivers.
Police spokesperson - Colonel Robert Netshiunda - says a police patrol spotted a group of about ten people at a bakkie next to the side of the road in the early hours of this morning.
The group fled when the police approached.
The arrests were made when two truck drivers approached the area in a car to pick up the forum's office bearer - whose bakkie was abandoned.
Netshiunda says it is possible that this group could be linked to the stoning of a truck near the Colenso interchange a short while earlier.
