#WATCH | Earlier today, Government learned that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, LoP Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, K. C. Venugopal and other leaders had begun a dharna. I, along with the Union Home Secretary, was sent to urge them to end the protest and hold discussions instead. Rahul Gandhi said he would suspend the dharna if the government assured a discussion in Parliament on the NEET paper leak. After consulting the leadership, I conveyed the government's readiness for a detailed debate. However, Rahul Gandhi added a new demand, seeking the Union Education Minister's resignation. I pointed out that he had earlier agreed to end the protest if Parliament discussed the issue, but he said his demands had changed. Despite appeals from both me and the Union Home Secretary, who also highlighted the inconvenience caused to the public, he refused to call off the protest. I told him it appeared he was not interested in a resolution and had chosen confrontation. This was despite PM @narendramodi's assurance earlier that those responsible for the NEET paper leak would face the strictest action and that the government would protect students' interests.
